Hi, I've been listening to the podcast for quite a while now, but am only now checking out the forums.

I work in a library in Adelaide, South Australia, and my job involves selecting DVDs for the collection. I get a chance to slant things a little bit towards my taste in films, although I obviously have to try to please everyone if possible.

I've loved b-movies ever since I was a youngster. I remember being traumatised by my first viewings of "The Blob" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" when I was, probably, around seven or eight. Later, as a teen, I loved watching horror and sci-fi movies on television. Some that left a big impact on me were "The Tingler", "Homicidal", "Trilogy of Terror", "The Giant Claw", "Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine" and "Gigantis the Fire Monster" (which I now know is really "Godzilla Raids Again").

Later I developed a love of exploitation movies, e.g. women-in-prison, blaxploitation, biker films, drug movies, etc., etc.

My taste in movies is very wide-ranging as I watch a lot of Hollywood classics, European and Asian art movies, independant cinema, etc. as well.

My favourite movie director is John Waters. His sense of humour is so in tune with my own that I sometimes feel as if he made his movies solely for me.

I look forward to discussing all the fun movies and television and getting to know everyone,

Cheers,

David
Hiya David,
I can't say my tastes are as wide ranging as yours but anyone that likes The Tingler is alright by meSmile
John Waters is an acquired taste, I've enjoyed a lot of his work but alas the highlight for me was not his writing or direction but his role on The SimpsonsSmile
Yes, that "Simpsons" episode was a lot of fun. Apparently Waters also appeared in the television mini-series "Danielle Steel's Family Album", playing a porn director. I may be a Waters' fanatic, but I still haven't watched that. Maybe one day. Smile
Just watched "This Filthy World" on SKYArtsHD (Dsat channel in UK) and as a standup performance John was very funny, he even mentioned some of his early influences such as William Castle.

cool man just curious. What are some of your favorites. I've really been starting to watch a lot of them myself.

Yeah. I love "This Filthy World". Waters' commentary tracks are great too. As well as the ones on his own movies, he has done tracks on the DVDs of "Christmas Evil" and "Mommie Dearest". I haven't listened to those too yet.

Speaking of William Castle, I recently watched "I Saw What You Did" (1965). Like "Homicidal" and "Strait-Jacket", it shows a real Hitchcock influence. Two teenage girls make prank calls and end up in danger when one of their victims happens to have just killed his wife. Joan Crawford plays the man's girlfriend and gives a typically intense performance. Although the DVD is out of print, I was able to download a copy of the film from this website :

I love Jack Hill's movies :

The Big Doll House
The Big Bird Cage
Foxy Brown
Coffy
Switchblade Sisters

Other women in prison films I like include :

Caged Heat
Terminal Island (actually men and women in that one)

My favourite biker film would probably be "The Wild Angels". When it comes to drug movies I love the old ones - "Reefer Madness" and "Marijuana, Weed with Roots in Hell". I also love some of the hippie/drug movies like "Wild in the Streets" and "Psychout".

I also have a weakness for Roger Corman's nurse movies : "The Student Nurses", "The Young Nurses", "Private Duty Nurses", "Night Call Nurses" and "Candystripe Nurses". They have a fun mix of drama, comedy and sex.

Some other assorted exploitation films I love are : "Deathrace 2000", "Mondo Bizarro" (the silliest of the fake mondo movies), "Angel", "The Great Texas Dynamite Chase" and "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!".

I get most of my DVDs from Deep Discount DVD. They seem to have the best prices. Unfortunately a lot of the films I've listed are out of print. I don't know if you could rent them from Netflix. Some might pop up on Surreal Moviez, but I don't think many of them are on there at the moment. I notice they have "Deathsport" (one of the New World titles I don't have), but not "Death Race 2000". Disney actually released a widescreen DVD of "Death Race 2000", but unfortunately I didn't buy it before it went out of print. I only have the pan-and-scan version that was put out by Corman's New Concorde. But that title is in the public domain, so it is probably still available in some form. And hopefully the release of "Death Race" will lead to a re-release of the Disney DVD.

Some of the early exploitation films like "Reefer Madness" and "Sex Madness" (which I haven't seen) can be downloaded from Archive.org ( http://www.archive.org/ ).
