I love this movie, the stylized sets and fantastic lighting are wonderful. Of course I am in my mid fifties and saw a lot of these wonderful old films in the 60's when there was a kind of surge in popularity for all these oldies. I got to see many of them at a theatre in Canada that played only these oldies. I saw this one as well as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,  Metropolis and many other silent films. I am such a fan of these old films that I bought the AZTECH Graf Orlok and Dr Caligari collecable figures from the Silent Screamers series. LOL

Cool are the figures still available? TCM just ran The Hunchback 1923 version with Lon Chaney but I haven’t watched it yet it’s on the DVR. I’m a big fan to.

You know I am not sure, I got them at a sale when a comic book store closed. :-( I love them but have never seen them anywhere else, I will try to find out.
A quick comment about high profile actors in comic/superhero roles, great short term box office but like you say it's more difficult to maintain the balance between a star vehicle and stay true to the story and that's before budget issues crop up.

As for The Black Cat I am sure I watched this on BBC2 in a late late night slot in my youth but for the life of me I can't really recall much about the movie being more interested at the time with the generic monster movies.

You may have watched The 1941 or the 1966 version of The Black Cat like me when I was young. If you get a chance you need to watch the 1934 version there is a lot of difference in the two night and day. Hope you get a chance to check it out.
