It's enough to make you believe in fate, the movie was on UK telly a couple of days after itunes picked up the episode so I'm actually quite fresh on the contentSmile

First off the broadcast quality was pretty good but obviously lacking in certain areas so the Criterion should be a major step up and considering how good Forbidden Planet looked after a full restoration this movie could be another example of HD goodness if it ever gets a release.

I'll second the similar feeling Enemy Mine had as well as I think it was a Twilight Zone ep with astronauts stuck on a planet, in the latter case it's perhaps the marvellous scenery of Death Valley that does look so alien which adds to the effect. The re-use of the ships from War of the Worlds worked very well, not quite sure why they had to be from another galaxy thoughSmile

I totally agree that Draper seemed "wrong" when first faced with "Friday", in fact it looked to me like he had a monkey slave a now an alien slave and while it's a product of it's time it was gratifying when he treated the alien more as an equal. It was also gratifying for Draper to reference the actual novel, it's a pet peeve that so many movies/shows supposedly set in a timeframe we can accept with the earth human of our time as the central character that pop culture is referenced so little.

That's wild! Glad you got to watch it. Criterion rules. Look at my blog on a new Criterion release! http://www.bmoviecast.com/blog . I need to watch Enemy Mine again. About Draper mistreating Friday. The writer IB Melchior never intended for that he was very mad about that. Well that's Hollywood for you.
